This study aims to elucidate the tactics employed by Takfiri terrorist groups in urban assaults during the urban warfare in Syria and Iraq, and to propose effective countermeasures to enhance tactical proficiency and improve commanders’ capabilities in controlling and directing combat forces. Initially, terrorist tactics were identified through consultations with field commanders and advisors operating in Syria, along with a thorough review of relevant literature. Irrelevant items were subsequently eliminated using the Lawshe Content Validity Ratio (CVR) formula. The research sample comprised 112 experts, commanders, and trainers deployed in the Ghadir Mission in Syria, using a census (total enumeration) sampling method. Data collection employed both library-based methods—utilizing "index cards" (Fiches)—and field research approaches, including surveys. In the field phase, a researcher-developed questionnaire was designed to address the research questions, and expert opinions were gathered to validate its content. After collecting the completed questionnaires, the researcher extracted the data and analyzed it using SPSS software. The questionnaire’s reliability was confirmed via Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, yielding a value of 0.932, indicating high internal consistency and reliability. Based on data analysis, combat engineering operations demonstrated statistical significance at the 0.05 level. Among the identified tactics, the following ranked highest in importance: 1. Use of underground tunnels for storing weapons and ammunition (mean = 3.32), 2. Use of underground tunnels for troop movement and operational mutual support (mean = 3.24), 3. Bombing densely populated urban areas (mean = 3.10).
