Among the great wars that have taken place in the history of Iran is the comprehensive and widespread attack of the Iraqi Baath Party government on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which lasted from 1359 to 1367. On the southern front, which extends from the south of Mehran to Abadan and Ras al-Bisheh, the most important and decisive operations took place, namely Operation Valfajr 8, which led to victory based on some principles, including the principles of war. Therefore, the purpose of writing this article is to approach the place of Operation Valfajr 8 in the Holy Defense from the perspective of the principles of war. The method of collecting information for this research, given its nature, is the library and documentary method. The results of this research show that in Operation Valfajr 8, the Iranian forces not only conquered the city of Faw in the shortest possible time by applying the principles of war, but also by establishing strong and reliable defense lines, they were able to resist the toughest attacks of the Iraqi army, until finally, after 75 days of heavy fighting and even after using a large amount of unconventional chemical weapons, the Iraqi army and government were forced to accept the fact that Faw was in the possession of the Iranian forces. Therefore, the principles of war, including the principle of surprise and deception, the principle of concentration of forces, the principle of maneuver, etc., played an influential role in all stages of Operation Valfajr 8, including planning, execution and support.
