The survey of war literature shows that there are two styles of commanding war affairs. One relies on equipment and technology and another relies on manpower and his creativity. Today these attitudes are known as symmetrical and asymmetrical battles. Asymmetrical war is a war that occurs in unequal circumstances with respect to combat power and considerable differences of technology and armaments of military forces of two hostile countries. Defense in this circumstance is not just a defensive position or facing directly with the enemy but it is possible to utilize modern scientific ways, as passive defense, to prevent from reconnoitering, tracking and aiming friendly positions by enemy. This effort is by far more stable and less costly. Thus, regarding present situation and the meaning of asymmetrical battle and considering the positive points of enemy with respect to advanced technology and equipment; passive defense and its principles has an important role in preventing from excessive and unreasonable causalities and damages on premises and installations as well as on lengthening the future war, In the present study, I will deal with the role of dispersion and location in preserving personnel, equipments and facilities. I will also discuss the role of passive defense on succeeding in the war.
