The second teaching of Ferdossie to the military men is allocated to knowing the enemy. He believes that they should know the enemy and be sure that the enemy does not do anything except enmity. A military man ought to be aware of deceptions and tactics of enemy. The enemy sometime is proud of his superiority in terms of personnels and equipments.
So, the enemy insists on the war whereas a military man should not afraid of him, he says" a lion does not have fear of a dessert full of wild asses"
Some times, the enemy might think he will defeat so he suggests negotiation. Ferdossie believes that we should not quit war. It is for the reason that the enemy tries to deceive him to get rid of the situation.
According to Shahnameh, we should have unity when we face the enemy. Escape from war as well as carelessness cause everlasting shame. The commanders have to punish decisively those persons who escape from war.
