The Holy prophet was given the mission to direct people to Allah. To perform such divine and great mission, he used specific encouraging and discouraging instruments. Indeed, he used encouraging ways in almost all cases. He profited from peace agreements to safeguard the identity and religion of Moslems as far as possible. Patience, forbearance, tolerance and summoning people in a rational way were the main policies of the Holy Prophet. He never resorted to fighting in order to spread his religion. However, sometimes he was obliged to resort battle and direct engagement to safeguard Islam and punish the enemies.
When his opponents did not understand any language other than violence, he put them to the sword but not for conquering the world. To treat the malady of ignorance he used the remedies of sermon, prognosis, and herald
Although the prophet was a divine messenger his fighting were ordinary. He fought according to the common methods of his age. He took necessary actions and exploited weapons and equipment available at that time. Sometimes he triumphed over enemies and sometimes was defeated because he was not predestined to win all wars. The objective of this paper is to analyze such fighting within the framework of the Holy Prophet’s conduct and learning from them.
