The asymmetric war dates back to the ancient history and spreads war the entire globe. However, in each period, it requires its own specific instruments, provisions, and expertise. Asymmetric war, in its broad sense, assumes neither recognizable opponents nor estimated objectives. In this type of battle, the application of conventional arms and tactics has no significance. More importantly, this battle is the outcome of some asymmetric menaces. Hence, it must be defined within the framework of such threats.
This paper aims at introducing some concepts in connection with definition of symmetric and asymmetric wars, their differences, and the principles and characteristics of the latter.
