The Iranian troops encountered a very complicated situation when they intended to couduct the Valfajr 8 Operation. Concerning military factors like the organization of combat , service component, weapons, military equipment , tactics , and combat strategy , Iranian forces were not in a position that they could gain a decisive victory over the enemy. On the other hand, major obstacles faced the Iranian troops. No miliary expert was of the opinion that crossing over the Arvand River and occupying Fao Peninsula is possible. In all prime military expeditions , even during the Sacred Defense, crossing over a broad,deep and turbulent river like Arvand was not experienced. Interestingly,the likelihood of an offense through this river was regarded unthinkable by Iraqi military experts. Despite the fact that any offensive operation was impracticable, Iranian combatants crushed the Iraqi defense line after investigating the geographical features and traversable routes of the Arvand River. This triumph, of course , was resulted from the grace of God and the Iranian combatants’ military creativity .
